The Archies Strikes Nepotism Debate Again: Zoya Akhtar’s upcoming musical drama The Archies has once again brought the nepotism debate back. As Netflix dropped a cast announcement video of The Archies, a certain section of netizens trolled the actors and makers for promoting nepotism. The film is a co-production of Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti’s Tiger Baby Productions and stars Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor and Agastya Nanda in pivotal roles. Suhana Khan-Khushi Kapoor to Play Veronica-Betty!

As the cast of the film is revealed in the goofy video, Suhana Khan and Khushi Kapoor play Veronica and Betty respectively. While Agastya Nanda portrays Archie, Mihir Ahuja essays the character of Jughead. Suhana is Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter and Khushi is Sridevi and Boney Kapoor’s younger daughter. Agastya is megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson and Shweta Bachchan’s son. The Netflix original is an Indian adaptation of the popular American comic series.

Netizens Outrage Over Nepotism!

While some liked the trailer and expressed their excitement on twitter, a certain section blamed Bollywood for nepotism. A few netizens however, defended the film saying films are made from private investment and it is the producers call at the end of the day to cast whosoever they want. The Archies is Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti’s first independent collaboration. As earlier they were associated with Excel Entertainment co-owned by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani.

The Archies will start streaming in 2023.
