Aishwarya Rai Bachchan does seva at the Golden Temple

aish amritsar

It has been known that the cast and crew of ‘Sarbjit’ which is directed by the National Award winning director is sailing through the 3rd schedule of the film in Punjab. The crew recently shot at the Harmandir Sahib, Golden Temple in Amritsar where they captured some beautiful shots of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in and with the beautiful shrine.

However, to get these shots the B-town beauty queen also had the privilege to perform seva at the divine monument. From washing dishes to sweeping the floors, making chapatis and preparing dal, the beautiful actress did everything that a person doing seva in the temple would do. She also had food at the traditional ‘langar’.

“It is commendable how calm and composed she was in spite of the crowd pouncing to get a glimpse of her. She performed every seva with utmost interest and kept asking the Golden Temple officials to guide her to do every seva correctly so that there were no mistakes made. It was really thoughtful of her to be very particular about not hurting any  sentiments or go against their rituals” conveyed a source.

Teraa Surroor launches their new poster & Farah Karimaee can’t take her eyes of Himesh Reshammiya in it!

tera suroor

The Teraa Surroor team recently launched their new poster and it looks amazing! In the poster, Himesh Reshammiya & Farah Karimaee look super fit and ready for an action packed release! The earlier looks of the stars were also great — racy and sizzling. But this new poster has Himesh & Farah complimenting each other well and we can’t take our eyes off them!

What we loved in the new poster of Teraa Surroor is the minimal use of colour and the greyscale effect without any garish or bright-colours. It contributes towards the theme of the film, “A Lethal Love Story” and has got us on the edge of our seats!

Teraa Surroor, produced by Tseries and HR Musik, releases on 11th March,2016

Sikandar Kher is back with a bang!

sikander kher

The recently-released Tere Bin Laden: Dead or Alive has hit home with the audience and so has Sikandar Kher’s performance in it. The actor who plays dual characters in the film has been receiving a lot of  praise for both his roles, as David Dosomething and moreso for his performance as the potbellied Punjabi Hollywood producer David Chaddha.

Shubhra Gupta from Indian Express says, “The one actor, hard to recognize under all the make-up, who proves to be a complete funster is Sikandar Kher in a ‘double-role’: as the Yank operative assigned to the Osama job chewing on a broad accent which doesn’t drop, as well as the pot-bellied Hollywood ‘producer’ David Chaddha, he is a hoot.”

Deccan Chronicle mentions, “While watching Sikandar Kher’s performance, you wonder where was this talent hidden all these years. Playing David Chaddha, he pulls off the character with so much ease that he actually is a relief in portions where the film goes haywire.”

According to DNA, “Sikandar who gives a hilarious performance as the CIA officer. The prosthetic and makeup in the first half make him almost unrecognisable. His David Chadda – Bollywood producer act in the second half is funny as well.”

Rahul Desai too is all praise for the actor and says, “it’s Sikandar Kher who turns in a shape-shifting (literally) performance as David Dosomething/Chaddha. He is an absolute hoot, and his transition from yank to yuck is a sight to behold – especially the way he adjusts his neck-inbuilt dialect translation button ”

Rediff says, “Impressive is the previously untapped comic potential of Sikandar Kher. The actor is unrecognisable as the middle-aged CIA guy with a snazzy accent as well as the pot-bellied NRI producer jabbering in heavyweight Punjabi. The make-up is quite good as is the man under it. In a well-written film, he’d all you notice.”

Mumbai Mirror says, ” This film belongs to Sikander Kher. Be it the yee-haw Southern Texas accent he pulls off while playing CIA chief David Dosomething or his alter ego, which manifests by tweaking the “detachable mole” on the side of his neck — the happy-gogaudy Haaliwood producer David Chaddha. To play the latter, he gets into a hairier version of the Nutty Professor bodysuit to pass for a Punjabi NRI with celluloid dreams. In both, he’s unrecognizable and committed. If only the dialogues were sharper, his character could’ve been legendary.

With the actor getting a thumbs-up from the audience and the trade, it looks like Sikandar’s second innings is indeed turning out to be very promising.

Jha makes Murli run for his life yet again!

Noted character actor Murli Sharma shares that while he has played the baddie in all his films with Prakash Jha including Apaharan and Chakravyuh, all the roles have been very different from each other. But Murli, who is also playing a baddie in Jha’s upcoming Jai GangaaJal as well, reveals that apart from being the villain, his roles in the Jha films have one big similarity. “There is always a chase sequence right before my character gets killed off, so I am always running before being killed,” he exclaims.

The actor was made to run in Apaharan, while in Chakravyuh too he gets chased in the jungles. And in Jai GangaaJal too there is a chase sequence shot on Murli. “My role in Jai GangaaJal is completely different from my previous roles and has an effeminate streak. So, I thought for a change I would not have a chase sequence in this one. But I was wrong,” says the actor. “BhaiJi (as Jha is called) has always made me run and it used to be a joke amongst us, that even between shots whenever he would see me standing he would yell out asking me to run! So I have run on roads, in jungles, in bylanes… In fact, his first line to me would be, ‘Kyon Murli bhaagne ko tayyar ho?’ (Are you ready to run again?) and of course I would answer in affirmation,” laughs Murli.

Style shouldn’t precede comfort in fashion, feels Rupali Suri

rupali suri

Fashion and actress Rupali Suri go together. The girl is a regular with the fashion industry and has been walking the ramp for some of the best designers in the country.

Two of her favourites are Rahul Mishra and Vaishali S. “The latter’s garments are very feminine and even give that great look in silhouettes,” quips the spunky gal. Rupali is quick to add that she also likes the sensibilities of some other budding designers. “It’s all about perfect cut and fit, isn’t it,” she asks.

So how does she define personal style? “Though I am particular about dressing sense and colour schemes, I go with the flow. I’d say, my personal style is a mix of comfort and colours. One can’t carry a garment that one is not comfortable in. I’d rather be stylishly comfortable than comfortably stylish.”

So true! Describing fashion as a reflection of one’s self, mirrored in one’s personality is probably the finest description it can have. After all, the way a girl dresses up and carries herself, speaks volumes about her persona and adds attitude.

The Gladrags MegaModel winner will soon be making her big screen debut, playing a key role in director Arun Frank’s first feature film Dad… Hold My Hand. Being made entirely in English, the film shot in London and Mumbai, is expected to do the rounds of the festival circuit, apart from releasing in India and the West.

Randeep’s ‘chameleon traits’ shock Omung Kumar

randeep lean

The actor took up the challenging weight loss and gain for his role as Sarabjit with the help of his sister Dr Anjali Hooda Sangwan

Randeep Hooda, who had beefed up muscle to play a street fighter in Deepak Tijori’s ‘Do Lafzon Ki Kahaani’, had to shed 18 kg for Omung Kumar’s Sarabjit. And for this, the actor had to go on a near starvation diet which was supervised by his sister, who is a doctor.

Talking about the brief given to Randeep, Omung Kumar says, “In his years in jail, Sarabjit was kept in a 4 x 4 room and had rat bites all over him. The first time I met Randeep, I told him that I wanted to see his bones. He took up the challenge and shocked everyone with the outcome.” The director adds that he wasn’t able to recognise Randeep on the first day of shoot and he largely went unnoticed. “It was only when I called for him that I realised he was sitting right there.”

About the process, Randeep’s sister Dr Anjali Hooda Sangwan, (MD – Weight loss and metabolic consultant) agrees that this kind of a weight loss was indeed a challenge. “We planned on a low calorie diet – the Protein sparing modified fast – and it was targeted weight loss while making sure that there is no muscle loss. So Randeep had to cut down on all sorts of sugars including fruit sugar that means he couldn’t even have fruits. He cut down the carbs completely, but we made sure that his protein intake is not hampered. It involves a very strict diet to be followed including no exercise and I’m amazed how Randeep pulled it off,” she shared.

Anjali adds that the bigger challenge was to help Randeep get back the pounds within a 20-day break. Admitting that it’s very unhealthy and dangerous and something she would never recommend to anyone, she shares that Randeep went through this only for the role and under her medical supervision. “It’s just like how Matthew McConaughey and Christian Bale had undergone complete weight loss for their roles in Hollywood, but it’s strictly medically done. We would monitor Randeep’s blood every 10 days. And it’s due to his sheer will-power that Randeep has managed losing and gaining back the weight in a very healthy manner. He was extremely dedicated and motivated to go through the process and he’s co-operated on every front.”

Omung agrees and states that Randeep has chameleon traits. He recalls that for the flashback sequences he asked the actor to put on a few kilos for a wrestling scene. “I gave him a 20 days break and he came back all pumped up,” he says.

Starring Krishna Chaturvedi, Ruhi Singh, Lisa Ray and Jaaved Jaaferi, ‘Ishq Forever’ revolves around a free-spirited girl Rhea (Ruhi), whose life turns upside down when her father is appointed as the Prime Minister of India and she starts getting round the clock security, which hampers her independent lifestyle.
When Rhea runs away from her security team, she bumps into a mysterious stranger named Aryan Shekawat (Krishna), who promises her an adventurous journey. Thrown into the mix are a pair of terrorists intent on kidnapping Rhea and a pair of RAW agents (Jaaved and Lisa), who are a divorced couple and cannot stand the sight of each other, but are forced to work together to trace the elusive Rhea.
The trailer of the film is quite visually appealing and promises a rom-adventure with many twists and turns. Another fact which makes the film special is that legendary composer Nadeem Saifi makes his comeback to Bollywood with this movie.
‘Ishq Forever’ has been directed by Sameer Sippy and produced by Ajay Shah, Himanshu Gandhi and Shabeer Boxwala under their banner Friday Cine Entertainment. The film is slated to release on February 19.

Rajniesh Re-lived His College Time ‘Angry Young Man’ days As Bicky Shukla In ‘Direct Ishq’ releasing on 19th Feb.

Real life means reel life – This was pretty much the case for Rajniesh Duggall when he started shooting for Direct Ishq. As Bicky Shukla, a youth leader in Banaras, he had a task cut out, which was that of playing an Angry Young Man with a heart of gold. Well, as it turned out, this wasn’t really tough for the Delhi boy. Reason? During his college days, he was pretty much a similar, if not the same person. “I think somewhere that Bicky Shukla was always there in me since the college days,” says Rajniesh, who is a product of APJ School of Management, Delhi, “When I was 22-23 year old, I was a very short tempered guy. There were three of us in a group, and we always used to get into brawls. Since we were into a Management course, we tried to stay a little away from trouble par kuch na kuch ho hi jaata tha. The three of us were from East, West and South Delhi respectively. Ab imagine karo, poora Dilli saath tha toh aisa toh hona hi tha.”No wonder, when the part of Bicky Shukla came his way, Rajniesh
was delighted as he could now revisit the college days gone by.”Yeah, this is what gets the action on screen,” smiles Rajniesh, “College mein toh itni fight nahi kar paaya par chalo screen par ho gayi. You know, I was quite short tempered even when I modeling. It was acting that got it all tamed down. I realized that itna gussa acchaha nahi hota hai.”As for his part in the Rajiv S. Ruia directed film, he knew that there had to be a change in body language and lingo, considering the fact that the film is set in a small town.”Bicky’s mindset is very different from that of a city boy, so that change had to come in. That said, in his overall personality, I could see that Bicky was always there in me. It was just the words I speak and the body language that had to be worked upon.”We would like to see that on screen once this Pradeep Sharma produced film releases all over on 19th
February under his banner Baba Motion pictures Pvt Ltd.

Singer Swati Sharrma with her Emotion trance

swati sharma

A Bollywood movie is almost incomplete without a song. The music of a movie makes people hum along and dance to its tunes. Numerous Bollywood songs connect on an emotional level. The lyrics of some Bollywood songs bring tears. Sad songs do bring memories. Bollywood sad songs are all about pain, heartbreak, heartache do have a cult following. Lyrics and music in sad songs evoke a gush of emotion. Old sad songs from Bollywood movies are hugely popular even today. Lyrics speak a language that connects with the heart. Situational songs that evoke painful memories are beautifully enacted in scenes by actors and actresses in movies. Recently ‘Banno Tera Swagger” fame Swati Sharrma has sung a Melodic sad song with her soulful voice in “Direct Ishq” song “Toote Tare”. Swati will get you the teary-eyed when she brings varied emotions in her song. ” Toote Tare” song is picturised on Rajneesh Duggal,  Nidhi Subbaiah and  Arjun Bijlani  where they will be seen depicting their emotions.

Swati Sharrma said, ” When we talk about sad songs from Bollywood movies, what comes to mind is a broad spectrum of situations. Heartache, heartbreak, pain, sorrow, guilt, jilt, broken relationships are some among the various elements that encompass sad songs. A reason why emotional songs connect with listeners instantaneously is… the depth of lyrics. My song associates with memories, good memories and unpleasant memories. It relates to personal experiences in life and that hits the right notes with listeners”.

The various emotions which Swati has portrayed in the song bring about a sense of warmth that embalms the heart and mind. “While sad songs may flashback unpleasant memories, one cannot deny the fact that sad songs or songs about suffering and pain do calm senses and make you emotionally stronger”, Swati added.

Priyanka Chopra: ‘Abha Mathur is tough yet extremely feminine and graceful’

Priyanka Chopra is playing SP Abha Mathur in Prakash Jha’s much-awaited film Jai Gangaajal however, the biggest challenge for the acting powerhouse was to maintain femininity and grace while playing a tough cop.

When quizzed what was the biggest challenge she faced while playing Abha Mathur, the global superstar said, “When you are playing a tough character, when you are dressed in a uniform it becomes very difficult to maintain femininity and that was very important to me. Prakash ji and I discussed that as a woman, it’s is very important to celebrate womanhood and yet at the same time be in a position of authority and that’s how Abha is, which is very different from how we see tough women.”

“When they do action sequences, women somehow tend to lose their femininity. It’s beautiful that Abha is extremely feminine and very graceful but at the same time not someone to be taken for granted. She is very graceful and dignified and I enjoyed playing her,” she further added.

Jai Gangaajal, revolves around a female IPS officer, who is brought in a well-oiled system of the powerful, as she is thought to be weak, pliable and easy to manipulate however, things become difficult for them, when she comes into a confrontational mode.

Written and directed by Prakash Jha, produced by Prakash Jha Productions and Play Entertainment and co-produced by Milind Dabke, Jai Gangaajal revisits the dusty heartland of Central India and examines the society–police relationship. Starring Priyanka Chopra, the movie is all set to release on 4th March, 2016. Jai Gangaajal is not a prequel or a sequel to Ajay Devgn starrer Gangaajal but is a fresh story.

Radhika-Vinay to make ‘Snow White’ next!

As director duo Radhika Rao-Vinay Sapru’s Sanam Teri Kasam nears release, it has been revealed that their next is a musical, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Based on the Grimm Brothers’ classic fairy tale, their film will be set in the hinterlands of India, and against the backdrop of the brass band culture of the North.

As per reports, filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker too has been planning a modern-day take on the popular fairy-tale. But while Vinay and Radhika’s ‘Snow White’ will kick-start in March-April with a known star cast targeting a 2016 release, Gowariker’s film is expected to roll towards the end of the year.

Radhika and Vinay are known for lending a larger-than-life fairy-tale like charm to their works. Be it their music videos, their film Lucky: No Time For Love starring Salman Khan and Sneha Ullal or their superhit songs including Dabangg’s Tere Mast Mast Do Nain and more recently in Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo, they all have a fairy-tale like quality to them.

And that’s also how, reveal the filmmakers, that they came up with an idea of an adaptation of ‘Snow White’. While they admit that the original story has been tweaked a little, the essence and the metaphors of the familiar tale like the poisoned apple will be retained in their adaptation.

Vinay shares, “The hunter, who was supposed to kill Snow White in the forest, but lets her go, is merged with the character of the prince, to become an unlikely hero.”
Radhika adds that their ‘Snow White’ is an Indian girl with almond-shaped eyes, somewhat dusky complexion and unlike the original, who was quiet and timid, is feisty and temperamental. “Also, the dwarfs are not physically small men but people who live on the fringes of society,” says Radhika, pointing out that in the original Grimm’s fairy tale that was how it was.

As for Gowariker making a film on Snow White too, they reason that even in Hollywood there have been instances of two studios coming up with a ‘Snow White’ around the same time. She says, “No one can lay claims to the story. Anyone can adapt it and every filmmaker will have a different interpretation. Ours is a musical set in the interiors. Maybe Ashu’s film will come before us!”

The wait for ‘Waiting’ is finally over for cinema lovers! The much-anticipated Naseeruddin Shah-Kalki Koechlin starrer film is all set to hit theatres on April 29. Directed by Anu Menon and produced by Ishka Films and Drishyam Films, Waiting has created a lot of buzz ever since its grand world premiere at the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) in December last year, where the film received unanimous praise from both audiences and international critics.

While the Naseer-Kalki on-screen pairing is a huge draw for film buffs, the film that features Rajat Kapoor and Arjun Mathur, also marks the debut of noted filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s wife, actor Suhasini Maniratnam in Hindi cinema.

Director Anu Menon shares that while the Dubai experience was overwhelming, she can’t wait to show the film in India. “Both the screenings at DIFF were a houseful affair. It’s not often that a film gets such a fab response not only from the audience but the critics as well. And after a great reception at DIFF, I am certainly excited about releasing our film here,” shares Menon.

As for the accolades pouring in for the Naseer-Kalki pairing and the excitement it is generating here, she adds, “They both are talented and fearless actors with a great sense of humour to match, and the crowds at DIFF loved them. Naseer was even honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award, so for me it was exciting to be there with him for Waiting.”

Priti Gupta, founder of Ishka films, is equally excited about the film’s Indian release. “Waiting brings to you all the emotions that you can feel within a short span of time. It makes you smile, cry and laugh, through sublime and effortless story telling. It helps to have actors who are able to bring to life these fine nuances. You know you have made a great film when you watch it with real audiences and they go through these emotions along with your characters. ”

Manish Mundra, founder of Drishyam Films, is upbeat about the film’s theatrical prospects in the country. “After such a fantastic response at DIFF, we are excited to bring our film to India. Waiting is a deeply moving yet uplifting story that is sure to resonate with our audiences.”

The film is about the special relationship between two people who befriend each other unexpectedly in a hospital, while nursing their individual spouses in coma. It is a film about grief, but more than just dealing with it, the film is also about confronting it and discovering a sliver of hope between the lines. It is a life-affirming story representative of urban India and its ethos.

Harshvardhan doesn’t let dyslexia slow him down!

Sanam Teri Kasam’s debutant actor uses images instead of words to remember scenes and character graphs

South star Harshvardhan Rane, who is making his Bollywood debut with Sanam Teri Kasam, is dyslexic and can’t remember words! But the actor isn’t letting it slow him down. The hunky star shares that instead of the conventional style, he uses images to remember scenes and character graphs.

The actor recalls that when he was in school, he found it difficult to read out aloud from a book or from a paper during assembly or while in class. He adds that he complained to his father about how “the words keep jumping.” His father then took him to an optometrist, who in turn gave him glasses with minute power, hoping it would help him for good.

But it was four years ago, when he took admission at Barry John’s acting classes, that Saurav Sachdev, his acting coach, figured out that Harshvardhan had dyslexia since the coach himself suffered from the same. His coach told him that he compensated for it with a 3D vision of space. This finally made sense to Harshvardhan, who had always aced physics projects in school and even excelled in carpentry later on. In fact, the actor had even sold furniture he had made himself.

However, dyslexia isn’t a handicap in his chosen profession, feels Harshvardhan and the only problem is his lack of ability to keep hold of words. He says, “I got my ex-girlfriend to read out the script to me and then made a basic storyboard to help me retain images of scenes and draw character graph in my mind.”

The actor adds, “So the bad girl had horns and a triangular skirt, the good girl, a circle for a skirt, and no horns. The bad guy also had horns and the cop, a cap. The other guy a funny hairstyle and my character had boxer shorts. Locations were marked out — house, court, library and lift. Dialogues weren’t memorised but felt. My director was surprised to see me refer to these sheets before every scene till I admitted that I was dyslexic and this was my way to get things done. It works!”
