Why Irrfan Khan opted out of Tigmanshu’s SBAG?

PAAN SINGH TOMAR is a success but its lead actor Irrfan Khan stays on to be humble as ever. Though he is getting accolades for playing the central protagonist to the T, Irrfan denies that his decision to work in the film had much to do with the fact that he was getting to play a character which was the focal point in practically every scene.

Arrey aisa career ke start mein hota tha jab lagta tha ki main aisa role karoonga jisme sirf main hi dikhoon. Now it is more about what the story is trying to tell. These are the kind of considerations that drive me today,” explains Irrfan, ”It was the core idea of how an athlete turned into a dacoit that really moved on. I played the role mainly for that than anything else.”

While one waits to see the kind of distance that the film covers from this point on, there is also an added curiosity about seeing Irrfan in Tigmanshu’s SAHEB BIWI AUR GANGSTER 2. However one wonders why he was missing in action fromSHAGIRD and SAHEB, BIWI AUR GANGSTER.

”See it all depends on the director’s conviction. Also, sometimes actors are busy as well,” says Irrfan after a brief pause, ”In fact after CHARAS there was a long gap for Tigmanshu as well since he was trying to find a right producer for the right film. Later when the subject of PAAN SINGH TOMAR was finalised, he thought that only I could have done that. May be in his other films he didn’t get that kind of conviction. It’s okay. In any case when he was working on SAHEB BIWI AUR GANGSTER, I was shooting for a film in Hollywood. That’s okay, such things happen. No regrets.”

Now that Irrfan has made his entry into SAHEB, BIWI AUR GANGSTER 2 and would also be a part of Tigmanshu’s JAI RAMJI, one can well expect this association to continue for long.
