Film Bazaar: Zoya Akhtar, Abhay Deol and Kalki Koechlin creative tryst

Afternoon at Film Bazzar saw the coming together of Industry contemporaries like Zoya Akhtar, Abhay Deol, Kalki Koechlin, and Sanjay Suri for a panel session on Are New Age Filmmakers Trendsetters?

Though the opinions of the panelists on the idea of “trendsetting” differed they agreed that the changes that have taken place in the Indian cinema today are due to the changing demands and needs of their audience. Zoya Akhtar who is a new age film director said,“it is about making the money and every venture starts out with wanting to be a commercial success but said the film she writes, directs has to ultimately appeal to her as director before it can be sought to appeal to the viewers . She also said expecting a pan indian hit is slightly un realistic as the success of the film can be fragmented and may work in some parts and might bomb in others. Vishal Bharwaj a veteran film maker seconded Zoya’s opinion on being his own most important audience and said “I make movies for myself” With relation indie space to Sanjay Suri explains why being an Independent Filmmaker is difficult in India. ‘A film that works in Mumbai could or could not be liked or seen in Chennai, India itself is a big challenge, I hope to make a film that firstly works all over India and also overseas.

Actor Abhay Deol, who has made a name for himself in new wave cinema, also said that despite being Punjabi, he is not into watching Punjabi movies. “I don’t watch Punjabi movies. My Punjabi is also not that good,” he said responding to a question.

Deol, who has worked with Akhtar in her film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, said that the sub-titling could help more audience to watch the regional cinema.  Kalki Koechlin, Indian actress with French descent, however, said that Anurag Kashyap (her husband) drags her to see Marathi films.
Referring to Marathi movie `Gandh,’ she said that the film was really excellent and she liked it. “I really enjoyed watching Marathi films. It is something that should be more accessible,” she added.

The issue of new generation filmmakers watching regional films was raised during the Knowledge Session by one of the audience.
One of the participants, introducing himself as a film critique, claimed that `few Hindi filmmakers are being highlighted as a torch bearers of the Indian film industry.’

Deol rebutting the allegations said that every filmmaker is having a set of audience which he caters to. “You don’t compare one to another as per your judgements,” he said.

Film Bazaar is the concept by National Films Division Corporation (NFDC), which is a business to business platform for the filmmakers and buyers.

The soundtrack for DON 2 is also live on Get hold of some of the finest tunes composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and Javed Akhtar. The album begins with a monologue by SRK signaling the comeback of the Don. This is followed by the title song ‘Zaraa Dil Ko Thaam Lo’ which takes off from ‘Aaj Ki Raat’ and brings back the sound of the early 80s in a fresh new presentation. Shaan’s version of ‘Main Hoon Don’ from Don – The Chase Begins Again, is presented by KK in Don 2 as ‘Mujhko Pehchaanlo. The fun element however is provided by ‘The King Is Back – Theme’ – a four minute long piece that takes forward the anthem of ‘Don’ with Sunitha Sarathi providing a fitting tribute to the song. Big B dedicates poem for Beti B

Like any grandfather megastar Amitabh Bachchan is extremely happy and enjoying his time playing with his little granddaughter, Aishwarya and Abhishek’s first baby.

Big B writes on his blog, “She sleeps through most of the day except for feeds and has been most obedient and well behaved! Ha ha ha… The moments spent with her even though one encounters shut eyes, are the most pleasant and fulfilling,”

The overjoyed grandpa has also dedicated a poem for Beti B, a name coined for the little one, which he published on his blog. The poem too was actually written by his father, the late poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan when Big B was born.

Big B blogs, “She is home! And nothing could give us all greater joy and happiness .. There is so much to say and so much emotion, but I think excerpts from my Fathers poem, written at the time I was born, say enough!”

The Poem is as follows:

फुल्ल कमल,

गोद नवल,

मोद नवल,

गेह में विनोद नवल।

नवल दृश्य,

नवल दृष्टि,

जीवन का नव भविष्य,

जीवन की नवल सृष्टि।

Not that Emraan plays ‘dirty’ always

Emraan Hashmi, quite literally, is going places to promote his upcoming flick THE DIRTY PICTURE!

Emraan Hashmi went on a promo overdrive for THE DIRTY PICTURE in Delhi a few days back creating mass hysteria – from visiting the Parliament to travelling on the Delhi Metro to seeking blessings at the Nizamuddin Dargah.

Minutes before his prayers, he decided to do it the right way by buying himself a white kurta from a shop close to the Dargah.

For once, there was nothing dirty about what Emraan bhai did!

Katrina chooses Pitbull over Ranbir!

International singing sensation Armando Christian Perez a.k.a. Pitbull is coming to town! And the fans can’t wait to grab on this rare opportunity and join their beloved music sensation this December. But guess what? The fans have some serious competition awaiting them! Pitbull has a celebrity admirer here in India, which is none other than the gorgeous superstar diva – Katrina Kaif.

The lady who is known for her timeless beauty, outstanding acting skills and individualistic style, is undoubtedly admired by her fans across India. However, this ‘lucky mascot’ of Bollywood is actually a big fan of Pitbull and his music.

Hence, when the news of Pitbull’s arrival to India hit the media circuits, Katrina Kaif couldn’t stop herself from expressing a desire to meet this globally celebrated musician. Whether Katrina will be able to meet Pitbull and bring any luck to his concert too has yet to be seen. But it seems like; Ranbir Kapoor isn’t Katrina Kaif’s Rockstar after all.

There’s a twist to the tale. It seems the organizers are also in dialogue with Ranbir’s team after the success of ROCKSTAR for a meet and greet with Pitbull. Wouldn’t it be such a love triangle if the three superstars come on stage together?

SRK shoots with real life prisoners

The fearless Don aka Shahrukh Khan has hit the nail hard and bang on with his dreadlocked look in the film as seen in the trailers. The star, who sports a special haircut for his jail sequence, has been getting muddy and dirty as he packs punches with the inmates. Shahrukh shot for this scene at the Malacca Prison in Malaysia.

Explaining the sequence, a crew member said, “Don has an ace up his sleeves and has already masterminded a prison break.”

Shahrukh Khan takes on the inmates of the jail and those who dared to question how he landed up behind the high walls. The actor shot with several local Malaysian artists for this sequence which was physically taxing.

The film was shot in a real prison with real prisoners behind the jail and a complete section of the prison block was made available to shoot. In order to avoid any hitches, special crew t-shirts were made to differentiate crewmembers from the prisoners as it was a high security zone. None of the crew members were allowed to carry their mobile phones and laptops.

Produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and director Farhan Akhtar who is also the director of the flick, DON 2 is slated to break into screens on the 21st December 2011.

Nargis Fakhri wants Superstar Khans as her future heroes

After Ranbir Kapoor, first timer Nargis Fakhri is now eyeing Khans. Though the lady garnered a mixed critical response for herself with Ranbir, Nargis feels that it was a great experience nonetheless and now it is time to scale further heights.

“She hasn’t signed any new film since ROCKSTAR and is presently going through a settling phase. She has a team around her which is working on ensuring that what she does next is something which is even bigger and better than her debut affair,” says a close associate of the actor, “After doing a ROCKSTAR, she is in a position where she can neither afford to lie low nor pick up anything that comes her way. It has to be something substantial and the actors who top her wish list are none other than Khans.”

One wonders though whether her Khan dream would indeed realise soon. After all Aamir does only one film at a time and cast for his DHOOM 3 is already locked. Ditto for Shahrukh Khan who has Kareena Kapoor as his on-screen partner for the Rohit Shetty film which is rumoured to be titled CHENNAI EXPRESS.

“Seems like Nargis’ best bet is Salman Khan here. Though he is already booked for next year with Katrina Kaif and Sonakshi Sinha as his leading ladies for EK THA TIGER and DABANGG 2/KICK respectively, there are slots open for SHER KHAN and NO ENTRY MEIN ENTRY. She may just get fortunate,” says an industry source.

Also, if Nargis comes out her Khan fascination then Akshay Kumar is another leading man who does films by dozens and hence always has slots available for newer leading ladies. With casting yet to be finalised for ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI 2 and KHILADI 786 – MADE IN PUNJAB, Nargis could well be trying her luck there as well.

Ask Nargis about how she wants to extend her wish-list of actors and she says, “Of course whether it is Shahrukh, Salman, Aamir  or any other Khan, I would like to work with them all. Each of these senior actors is so different and I am so much looking forward to making some more amazing films with them. Of course a script has to be great too but with these actors in, I am sure all else will fall in place.”

CHECK OUT: Aishwarya with Beti B arrives back home

A wave of happiness is passing through the Bachchan family as after months of speculations, actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan gave birth to a baby girl on Nov 16 morning at Seven Hills Hospital in Mumbai.

“The soft innocence of nature rests in my arms, oblivious of what else happens around her. Occasionally she opens her large and what looks now to be eyes of the lighter hue, which those that have dealt with similar, know shall change with time,” Big B blogged after spending the first day with his grandchild.

“Often the gentlest of smiles quiver across her pouted upper lip, the shut eyes bringing expression through the brows and the settling down to that dream she must dream. Her head covered in the littlest of head gear she will ever adorn, snuggles into her mini quilt of varied colors dominated by the pink softness of its material,” he described.

Neha Dhupia’s peppy song has a painful past

Neha Dhupia would be soon seen gyrating to a dance number ‘Haiyya Haiyya’ for her upcoming film PAPPU CAN’T DANCE SAALA. While the song has an out and out happy mood to it with a rhythmic base ensuring that it brings one on the dance floors, there is a story behind what really meets the eye (or rather reaches the ears). Apparently Neha’s voice for the song, Manasi Scott, had to battle some trouble of her own before ‘Haiyya Haiyya’ could turn into a reality.

“Manasi is making her playback comeback in the film. However it didn’t turn out to be smoothest of them all though,” informs a source, “As luck would have it, she ended up with high fever and a sore throat on the day of the recording. Though she is usually quite super-quick and confident, this time around Manasi had the most nervous recording session ever. She had to regularly pop painkillers since her throat ached every time she sang the higher notes. Ultimately it boiled down to music director Malhar for taking her through.”

Since ‘Haiyya Haiyya’ is a high energy dance number, it required Manasi to be hitting the high notes often. Malhar just asked her to concentrate on style and emotion while leaving the rest to him. Incidentally, ‘Haiyya Haiyya’ is the only song from the music CD which finds a place in the film as well.

“Film’s director Saurabh Shukla too was very impressed with the singer/composer team here since in ‘Haiyya Haiyya’ he got the kind of sound he was looking for,” the source continues.

With Vinay Pathak in the title role of ‘Pappu’ along with Rajat Kapoor, PAPPU CAN’T DANCE SAALA releases all over on 16th December.

Shah Rukh Khan opens 42nd IFFI amidst protests

The 42nd International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Goa, was opened by Bollywood’s King Shah Rukh Khan amidst heavy security bandobast, and black flag waiving by a group of Save Old Goa protestors. The Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ambika Soni, Goa CM Digambar Kamat, Rituparna Sengupta, Mayor of Margao, Susheela Naik, festival director Shankar Mohan, ESG’s CEO Manoj Shrivastav, and a host of bureaucrats, politicians, film industry associations, films stars, filmmakers and technicians, cinema aficionados, and the media were present in large numbers. The opening ceremony was conducted by an assured Tisca Chopra and Rahul Khanna.

While welcoming the invitees and festival delegates the CM Digambar Kamat expressed a great sense of pride in bringing the opening ceremony of the 42nd IFFI to Margao’s Ravindra Bhavan Auditorium, a location almost an hour’s drive from IFFI’s main venue at Panaji. He referred to the Golden Jubilee of the liberation of Goa in this regard. The struggle for Goa’s liberation was started in Margao at the call of Ram Manohar Lohia that led to the intervention of the Indian government and the end of the Portuguese rule.

Ambika Soni’s speech followed. She is one of the best informed I&B ministers about the issues of the film industry. She talked about the need to further develop the film market and turning Goa into an important destination in the global film calendar. She said, ”Let IFFI become truly an international event- an international people’s festival.”

SRK read a prepared speech which was philosophical, and erudite. He said that cinema is the most modern art of storytelling ‘a collective focus addressed to all, open to all and including all’. He further added that festivals like IFFI are a manifestation of human happiness and should be seen as a sharing of India as people gather to share their joys and creativity. He concluded that an honest effort is critical for producing anything of value and he complimented the organizers for making that honest effort.

The Life Time Achievement award was conferred upon French filmmaker Bertrand Tavernier. The event showcased an extempore painting by Shri Vilas Nayak on Bertrand Tavernier followed by a screening of a two minute clip on the acclaimed filmmaker’s work. Ambika Soni presented to him a certificate, a cheque, and a scroll.

The event showcased the cultural diversity of the country through an eclectic song, dance and music programme, starting with the rendition of ‘Vandematram’ featuring seven dancers dancing on slow paced music. It moved on to an Odissi dance recital by Subhada Varadkar, a Lavani performance by

They are Bollywood’s ‘men in white’, the director-duo with the Midas touch at the box-office. Their thrillers are eagerly awaited and they seem to be hitting the bull’s eye with the magic that jingles at the box-office. Speaking to Abbas Mastaan whose next film PLAYERS releases soon, one realizes that it is their simplicity and mastery over the trade of film-making that helps them create wonders. They have a pulse of what clicks with the audiences and the tadkaa that leaves soothing memories in the audience’s minds.

Why did you opt to remake ‘The Italian Job’ when you have been pioneers in creating successful ‘hit’ thrillers?

It was Viacom18 which approached us with the subject and suggestion that we could remake “The Italian Job”. Although we had never ventured into remaking a Hollywood film, we did reconsider it after great thinking. We were working out the mechanics of making the concept which could be acceptable and digestible to suit the palate of the Indian audiences. We saw both the versions (1969 and 2003) and worked hard to retain certain essences of the original in Players.

Apparently you have paid a bomb for the rights of remaking this Hollywood hit?

Well, fortunately we didn’t have a problem on the remake rights. Viacom18 is a sister concern of Paramount Pictures. So they clinched the deal for us. As directors, the onus was on us to make a ‘hit’ and entertaining film.

How much of the original version has been retained in Players?

We have chosen the theme of a gold heist and Indianized it completely. There are certain portions of the small buggy car chase scenes and some other thrills which have been incorporated from the original. We can challenge anyone in the audience that even if they see ‘The Italian Job’ just one day before the release and see ‘Players’, they will be zapped to see the difference in the two films.

Is there a dearth of Indian writers that you had to choose a successfully acclaimed Hollywood thriller?

We are always on the lookout of kick-ass scripts. We do meet a lot of writers who come forth with some unusual concepts. When quizzed and grilled, they do tell us that they have been inspired by certain Hollywood films. But as directors, it is our constant endeavour to deviate from what has been shown in films earlier. We do have a complete team of writers who work with us and our hits is the joint effort of some crazy brain-storming sessions.

Bobby Deol and Bipasha Basu have been lucky mascots, who have worked in most of your successful hits. Which one of them has been luckier for you?

We have never thought or considered (with a smile on their faces) who is the lucky mascot for us. Possibly the factor that both their names begin with ‘B’ is instrumental for the film. Our films have strong scripts with edge of the seat drama and some real out-of-the-box twists. That’s what differentiates us from the other thrillers which are being made. Bipasha did get launched in our film. All actors are equally important to us.

What is the mystical, magical mantra for making most of your films commercially hit at the box-office?

Frankly there is no mantra to box-office success. We strive for bringing to the table something that is thrilling, entertaining, has some good songs and appeals to the audiences. We work overtime to make each scene outstanding so much that it compels the audience to think while watching the film and try to decipher what is going to happen in the next moment. Sometimes some actors when they read the scene, they think the shoot would be completed in 5 hours flat. But we take almost 3 days to shoot it with precision. Film making is all about creating that edge-of-the-seat thrill that engrosses the audiences and gives a paisa vasool feeling. Films should also have a recall and repeat value. We have been making films for almost 34 years now and have made only 17 films till date. If we wanted we could have churned out films and amassed wealth. Films for us are a passion and creation of something elusive and entertaining.

Kashmera Shah beats up reality show contestant

It’s been quite some time Kashmera Shah has been done and over with Rakhi Sawant and Bigg Boss, but the gal still seems to have a strong hangover from the House of Scandal. While shooting her latest reality show Steal Ur Girlfriend for Channel [V], Kash, who anchors it in true-blue chick-flick style, actually beat up a contestant called Atirek Sharma.

Reason? “The guy just didn’t understand how to sweep a girl off her feet,” Kash snaps, as if justifying her actions.

Hitting Atirek Sharma on his head, Kash got so involved in the show’s proceedings that she started laughing an evil laughter while punching the poor guy who didn’t know whether to cry or get turned on as Kash was right on top of him. As the baffled contestant took a breather, she looked him in the eye, gave a wicked stare and ruffled his hair like a mischievous kid.

Gosh! What on earth was on Kash’s mind? Or she just lost it? When asked, she cattily winks and says she has always beaten up men in her life. “If you beat them up properly and lay them well, you can walk all over them all your life.” Huh!

Channel [V]’s synopsis of the show reads: ‘Kashmera plays an angel in disguise, helping out helpless lovers turn from zeroes to heroes and steal girlfriends of other guys!’

Yeah, that’s being naughty enough! But if this is Kash’s definition of being an ‘angel’ to the contestants, imagine what could happen, if Kash decides to play ‘devil’ for a change someday. Wonder if her smarty-pants boyfriend Krushna wants to say something here!!

Not many know that as a kid Ekta Kapoor had always wanted to be a film journalist. She had also done a couple of stories as a cub reporter (with the assistance of a staffer) for gossip magazine Stardust. Much to the chagrin of her dad, he was quite sure that his daughter was capable of more than just unearthing scoops about his Bollywood clan.

Today, the business Czarina that she is, Ekta has a strong nose for spice and knows exactly what sells. Be it her stint with television where she changed the face of the small screen, made her millions, Ekta has also proved that a low-budget-high-on-content film can work wonders at the box-office. “LSD” and “Ragini MMS” are two such low budget films which have been commercially viable hits for her non-commercial film banner.

THE DIRTY PICTURE has already evoked enough curiosity coz of the story line which is allegedly inspired by South sex siren Silk Smitha. How much of Silk is there in this film, one can rest assured that it has the right dose to grab not just the eye-balls but tickle the funny bones of the front benchers.

One such exclusive sneak-peek on the film which is still a close guarded secret hit our hands. Since the storyline borders on the South film industry and the era when double-meaning dialogues were rampant, read on to slurp the flavour of the film.

Naseeruddin Shah’s wife, along with their 6 month old baby, visits the location where Vidya is shooting. Getting into a brief discussion, Vidya asks to hold the baby.

The baby’s hand goes on Vidya’s much evident bosom (through her low cut blouse) where she has a mole (kaala til). To this Vidya retorts, ‘Bilkul apne baap peh gaya hain’.

Quite shocked at the comment coming from the heroine of her husband’s film, the wife does manage to read between the lines on what Vidya is hinting at. She retorts, ‘Tumhare paas toh til hain, lekin woh mere dil main bethaa hain’.

Vidya gives a cynical almost sadistic smile, looks at Naseer’s wife and comments, ‘Woh toh tumhare dil mein bethtaa hoga, lekin mein toh uske til beh beththi hoon’

Impulsively without thinking twice, the wife retorts, ‘tumhe kaise pataa uske paas wahan til hain’.

Vidya doesn’t comment and roll her eyes with an impish glee of knowing where Naseeruddin has a ‘til’.

Knowing Ekta and her penchant for spice, gossip and controversy, one can wait and watch to see how this scene gets past the Censor’s eagle eyes when one can easily decipher what and where the ‘til’ is which is being spoken about in this scene.

Watch this space for more spicy unread gossip about Bollywood.

Neil’s villainous act to stand tall in PLAYERS?

Neil Nitin Mukesh’s patience seems to have paid off. Though his last release LAFANGEY PARINDEY (which had arrived close to a year and a half ago) was a decent success, he faced a few torrid months ahead with not much exciting coming his way. The sole biggie in his hand was PLAYERS and it was nothing less than a gamble that he played. Guess this worked in his favour because if insiders are to be believed, he has totally stolen the show in this thrilling affair.

“He plays a villain in PLAYERS and if one goes by the track record of Abbas-Mustan, in each of their films villains have a strong part to play,” comments an expert, “If you look at some of their major films in the past, the actor enacting the character of a villain has always walked away with all the laurels. Whether it was Shahrukh Khan (BAAZIGAR), Arbaaz Khan (DARAAR), Akshay Kumar (AJNABEE), Priyanka Chopra (AETRAAZ) or Akshaye Khanna (HUMRAAZ) – each of these actors has stolen the show whenever they have been required to turn grey or be out and out black.”

“Since Neil’s character is based on the same character as that of Edward Norton in THE ITALIAN JOB, one can well expect the actor to have made full use of the opportunity made available to him. After all, all those who have had a dekko at the Hollywood thriller are well aware of the fact that even with Mark Wahlberg and Charlize Theron in the film, Edward Norton had come up trumps,” he continues.

Given the fact that Neil himself has proved his mettle with negative roles earlier, case in point being JOHNNY GADDAAR and to some extent even 7 KHOON MAAF (where he played the army-man husband of Priyanka Chopra), one does wait to check out who indeed turns out to be a ‘real player’ here!

Ranbir on ROCKSTAR success: I don’t want to be typecast

Ranbir is an experimentation mode, what with three consecutive films of his showcasing him as a failed professional (ANJAANA ANJAANI), jilted musician (ROCKSTAR) and a handicapped individual (BARFEE). Going by the trend, one wonders what really isRanbir looking forward to in months to come.

Not someone who has believed in playing safe all the time; what with films like ROCKET SINGH – SALESMAN OF THE YEAR and WAKE UP SID being unconventional choices as well, doesn’t his heart pine to step into much more guaranteed commercial successes like RAAJNEETI or AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI? Is he looking at experimenting further in his career?

“Well, experimental or not but one thing is sure that I don’t want to be typecast at all,” declares Ranbir, “I am hoping that I am offered untried and untested genres film after film. I may have done a few different films in the past and even in future I want to do diverse films belonging to action, drama or comic genre. My endeavour has been to play different characters in each of my films so far and if you notice, none of them bears any similarity whatsoever with another that I may have played. I try to make them all as exciting as I can. My character as well as films should be something that are engaging.”

He has a reality check around his knack for experimentation though and understands that not every step that he ends up taking would reap benefits for him, either critically or commercially.

“Something like that is bound to happen in the business that I am in,” agrees Ranbir, “Eventually at times I may be successful and there would be times when I fail. However what is of paramount importance is that whether I have surrendered to my character and the film or not. As long as I am doing that, have fully convinced myself and delivered my best after accepting to do a character, the eventual results are plain rudimentary.”

UTV acquires the feature film rights of Chetan Bhagat’s Revolution 2020

UTV Motion Pictures has acquired the movie rights of Chetan Bhagat’s latest bestseller Revolution 2020. Revolution 2020 will be made into an epic drama with strong roles for the lead cast. Chetan’s new novel has notched up sales of 800,000 copies in just a month since its release and it’s already on track to become the largest selling book of all time by an Indian author in English. The book has great roles for its key protagonists, as it narrates the story of three central characters – Gopal, Raghav and Aarti whose destinies are intertwined.

Speaking on the development, CEO of UTV Motion Pictures Siddharth Roy Kapur says, “We have been in discussions with Chetan for a while to do something together. When he shared his latest book with us even before it was published, we read it cover to cover in a single sitting. It’s simply unputdownable. He has crafted such a dramatic plot with such sharply defined characters, that you’re constantly wondering how things will play out. The issues he deals with in the book are those today’s youth will instantly relate to and identify with. We’re very excited to work with him on making a great film from what we all believe is a great book.”

Excited about this development, Chetan Bhagat says, “Yes, UTV finally managed to seduce me. A great offer, immense excitement about the story and a wonderful team with a track record makes me feel they can do justice to Revolution 2020, a story very close to me and the readers’ hearts.”

Every book authored by Chetan so far has been optioned for movie rights. Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 IDIOTS (the biggest grosser of all time in Indian cinema) was based on Chetan’s first novel, Five Point Someone; and his later works like 2 States and 3 Mistakes of my Life are also slated to be made into movies by leading production houses. Social Networking sites are already abuzz with speculation about who would be the best casting for the lead characters of Gopal, Aarti and Raghav, but according to UTV, it is a little early to speculate on casting.

Music Launch of GHOST

Debutante director Puja Jatinder Bedi, the co-producer for films such as “Mangal Pandey”, “Saathiya”, “The Myth”, “Maqbool” is working hard on completing and releasing an ode to horror – Ghost – an original love story that is brutal as hell. The film stars Shiney Ahuja as a detective and Sayali Bhagat in stellar roles. She is the first person to cast Shiney Ahuja after his court case and also the first to release his film.  The first-ever truly gory film is an extraordinary depiction for the first time ever in the horror genre of the battle of mystical forces led by angelic powers slaughtering evils for revenge.  Sharib -Toshi, the dynamic duo have a penchant for extracting rock soundtrack that promises that the composer duo has gone the whole hog to make the ‘Ghost ’.

The five songs include ‘Aaja Khatam Sabr kar de’ sung by Sunidhi Chauhan is the most sensual and sexy track and reminds you of Helen of yesteryears. Shiney ahuja, Bharat Shah, Sanjay Dutt, with Puja Jatinder Bedi

“It has been like a roller coaster working with Sharib and Toshi- I love their originality and their deftness , always I used to be running short of time but during my music sessions I could relax- I am very quick to pick on tunes -mostly rely on instinct as far as music is concerned- just close my eyes and take the music in and above all my music composers are so good and have created some lovely music for my film,” Puja says,  “In the process just the right mix of music has come up. You would be hearing the songs soon.”

The film stars Shiney Ahuja as a detective and Sayali Bhagat in stellar roles whereas the lead character of Ghost is played by a Russian actress Julia Bliss. A gymnast was chosen for the role as a lead actress because of the stunts involved. The Indian film industry will see an acrobatic ghost for the first time ever.

No infringement of copyright in SRK starrer DON 2

Films getting notices before the release has become a common thing these days. So we hear a notice was served to the producers of DON 2 as well. Reportedly, Nariman Films, the producers of original DON (the Amitabh Bachchan starrer 1978 film) had sent a legal notice to Excel Entertainment for copyright infringement saying that they had only given the right to remake the movie and no rights to make a sequel.

However, Excel Entertainment, owned by Farhan Akhtar & Ritesh Sidhwani has denied about the same. Below is a statement on behalf of Excel Entertainment’s legal counsel for the same.

“Excel Entertainment has not infringed any copyright leave alone that of DON, starring Amitabh Bachchan by producing DON 2. Further, Excel Entertainment is the bona-fide author and owner of copyright of the Films DON – THE CHASE BEGINS AGAIN (i.e. DON 1), which has been confirmed by Nariman Films in writing. Excel is also the owner of the copyrights of DON 2.”

The statement further reads, “In 2005, Nariman Films has given rights to Excel Entertainment, in perpetuity, for making DON – THE CHASE BEGINS AGAIN. DON 2 is a sequel of DON – THE CHASE BEGINS AGAIN alongwith the ownership to the underlying work therein. The entire story and dialogue of DON – 2 has been prepared by Farhan and the other team members of Excel Entertainment. The title of DON 2 has been approved by AMPTPP in favour of Excel Entertainment. Excel Entertainment states that there has been no undue influence on persons of Nariman Films. Nariman Films, with their malafide intention and to extort unjustified and unearned monies from Excel Entertainment, have given the legal notice, which is baseless and devoid of merits. Excel Entertainment is suitably replying to the legal notice sent by the Advocates of Nariman Films. Excel Entertainment shall defend themselves and shall not permit Nariman Films to hamper the release of DON 2 under any circumstances whatsoever. The fact of Excel Entertainment making DON 2 has been in the public domain since 2009. It seems that it has now become a practice to give notices just before release of a film to extract monies. We at Excel Entertainment have done nothing wrong and shall stick to the correct legal and moral principles and defend what is right.”

ROCKSTAR A R RAHMAN’S next musical tornado

Good news for all A. R. Rahman fans! A R Rahman is coming with his next Romantic movie directed by Gautam Menon upcoming movie – Ek Deewana Tha.

The songs composed by Oscar winner A.R. Rahman are still in much demand Fox Star Studios, co producer of the film, said, “Rahman has composed fantastic music for the film.

AR Rahman is one of the most sought-after music directors in the country. However, the flip side of working with the music maestro is that he is always tied-up, working on multiple projects simultaneously. And this time we hear that Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein director Gautam Menon, who is making his directorial comeback to Bollywood with the film Ek Deewana Tha, learned first-hand how difficult it can be to get all of Rahman’s attention. Reportedly the promos of Menon’s film were to be attached to Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar. However, a source close to the director informed  that Rahman was too busy working on the music of the Ranbir -Nargis starrer that he could not finish working on the music in Menon’s film promo within the stipulated deadline.

The source explained, “Rockstar was one of the most eagerly awaited films of this year. Many filmmakers wanted to release the first look of their film with Rockstar. Fox Star Studios, who are producing Ek Deewana Tha, were also keen to screen their promo with Imtiaz Ali’s film.

The director was unable to attach the promo of Ek Deewana Tha with Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar, as the music composer was too busy fulfilling his other commitments

Instead of Ek Deewana Tha, the promos of  Players and Don were released with Rockstar. Apparently, the film’s promo will now be released with Desi Boyz, on November 25.

When contacted, the spokesperson of Fox Star Studios, co producer of the film, said, “Rahman has composed fantastic music for the film. To create something spectacular is

very important and we are ready to wait. This is Rahman’s season of romance after Rockstar, as Ek Deewana Tha is also a love story.”

The New haseena in Prateik Babbar’s life

Bollywood actor Prateik and his Ek Deewana Tha (EDT) co-star, British model Amy Jackson has been making the rounds for a while now, here’s a new twist to the tale.

The two, who have regularly been spotted at social dos lately, have become quite a team at award functions. And now, as the award season draws nearer, Amy is apparently very keen to visit all the functions with Prateik .British model Amy Jackson is accompany co-actor Prateik at multiple award shows

The actor, who was first spotted in a cameo in Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na (2008), is sure to be nominated in the debutant actor category for his role in Dhobi Ghat.

“If Prateik and Amy turn up together, the focus will be on them, since he would be nominated and his chances of winning are also very high. So, the attention will naturally shift to the two,“ says an industry insider. A team member from Prateik’s management informs that the actor is prepping up to attend all the upcoming award functions. He has even asked the marketing team of Gautham Menon’s EDT to keep those dates aside. “Amy and Prateik are very close, so it’s natural that they will attend the shows together. Especially, thinking from Amy’s point of view, she would like go to these events,“ feels the member.

Prateik, who is looked upon as a shy boy in Bollywood circles, is not perturbed at all. “Amy and I are good friends and so, it’s natural for us to attend all the functions,“ he says.

Amy, for the uninitiated, won the Miss Teen World competition (in UK) in 2008, and starred in the 2010 Tamil flick, Madrasapattinam. Rumour mills, though, suggest that Prateik has found a new love interest in Amy.
Apparently, the two grew close during the filming of EDT, which marks Amy’s debut in Bollywood.

Will Kareena do an item number with Saif in AGENT VINOD?

With RA.ONE nearing the end of its run, Kareena Kapoor is now moving on to her next release AGENT VINOD. While audience as well as critics review did mention that she was one of the brighter spots of the film, especially due to the way she sizzled in ‘Chammak Challo’, even Kareena would agree that when it came to on-screen chemistry between her and Shahrukh, there wasn’t much to offer due to the film’s genre.

Now that AGENT VINOD is about to hit the screens, one can well expect the film to be really special for her, courtesy her real life partner producing and acting in it. So can one say that it would be their chemistry that would facilitate in igniting the screen in a big way?

Says Kareena, “See, Saif was my real life partner even during the days of KURBAAN but the film didn’t do very well. It ultimately depends upon how a director wants to present his actors. With AGENT VINOD though I can promise that (director) Sriram Raghavan has gone all out to ensure that my pairing with Saif indeed stands out since the script requires that.”

One does tend to believe this while also considering the fact that BODYGUARD was a love story in the disguise of an action drama whereas RA.ONE had everything but a love story embedded into the screenplay.

In that context, while one wonders how much scope for romantic rendezvous a spy thriller like AGENT VINOD carries, Kareena says, “AGENT VINOD has to be seen for what it is instead of being conscious of the fact that it features me along with Saif.”

While she seems to be quite poised about the future prospects of AGENT VINOD, how is Saif looking forward to the film’s release? After all ever since KURBAAN, his only other film has been AARAKSHAN where he merely enjoyed an extended guest appearance of sorts.

“Frankly, Saif’s whole life currently revolves around AGENT VINOD. He is super excited about the film and has worked on it with all the passion. You would see that for yourself,” smiles Kareena before signing off.

For the first time, Mithun-Mahakshay team up!

This news will surely gladden the hearts of the still huge number of Mithun Chakraborty fans. The multiple National Award winner and the original disco dancer, Mithun, is all set to team up with his son, the HAUNTED star, Mahakshay.

While the news of the father-son duo teaming up for a film was doing the rounds, it was confirmed by none other than Mahakshay himself who told us, “It’s true that for ENEMY, which is being produced by my mother (veteran actress Yogita Bali), dad and myself are teaming up.”

Giving the other exclusive details on the project, Mahakshay says, “The film will be directed by Ashu Trikha. It is a cop action drama and features my father, Suneil Shetty, Kay Kay, Johny Lever and yours truly (Mahakshay).”

Well, ENEMY is definitely on our must watch list of 2012.

Aamir or Shahrukh, who will play BENGALI DETECTIVE in Fox Searchlight’s feature film?

A documentary based on the life of a Kolkata based private detective Rajesh Ji titled BENGALI DETECTIVE, directed by Philip Cox, had created quite a stir in the film festival circuit and Fox Searchlight, the parent company of Fox Star Studios, India, had bought its feature film remaking rights at Sundance 2011.

The news is that Fox Searchlight has handed over the direction duties of the proposed feature film to the British director Stephen Frears who has won Oscar nominations for his films like THE QUEEN, and THE GRIFTERS while D.V. DeVentis will write its script. Both of them have worked together on films like HIGH FIDELITY, and LAY THE FAVORITE.

Now, since the director and the writer are in place, and the script is under development, the casting process will soon be under way and those who wish to take a shot at the title role are advised to get a DVD copy of the original documentary to study the character of Rajesh Ji, and alert their agents abroad.

However, the big question is who can play the title role in the film being made by the distributors of SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE? It is almost certain that the director, producers, and distributors of the film will be looking for an actor from the Indian sub-continent, probably a big time star, to lead the cast to get maximum traction from the fast expanding domestic film market of India.

Who will it be? The role has all the ingredients of becoming popular with international audiences and requires an actor in middle ages. The two names that instantly come to mind are Aamir Khan and Shahrukh Khan. It will be an opportunity for them to play a leading role in an international project and achieve global stardom and acclaim. Last time SRK missed the bus when he refused SLUMDOG MILIONNAIRE that went on to create Oscar history. Anil Kapoor got lucky at that time. SRK will certainly be wiser now, more so because it’s a leading role unlike SLUMDOG…

On the other hand Aamir may also be keen to do a truly world class film helmed by a top of the line director to establish his acting credentials worldwide. He may not admit it but the fact is that his production house has been constantly trying to develop a film that works equally well with global as well as domestic audiences. He had also tasted international fame with LAGAAN ten years ago, which proved to be the big turning point of his life. BENGALI DETECTIVE can be a natural choice for him as a part of his carefully calibrated career strategy and plan.

Should we expect the rivalry between the Khans reaching a new level of intensity over this?

Akshay Kumar turns Chitrangada’s bodyguard!

Not all the stars love being mobbed by crowd or are comfortable to be surrounded by people. There are actors like Chitrangada Singh, who can’t stand crowd or get cold feet when faced. Something similar happened while promoting the upcoming filmDESI BOYZ when Chitrangada was dazed to come across a huge mass. However, all thanks to Akshay, Chitrangada’s co-star, who came to her rescue and handled the situation with ease.

Akshay recalls the incident, “I remember we were on a promotion tour for DESI BOYZ and while promoting it in one of the cities we were mobbed by the crowd. I think Chitrangada, who comes from parallel cinema background, has never witnessed such huge crowd and power of commercial cinema is altogether different. Chitrangada was taken aback watching a crowd of 350 people around her. She was frozen and couldn’t step ahead. When I looked back for her I found she’s left behind. I immediately rush to her, hold her hand and brought her forward. While Deepika, who was also with us, walked with much confidence because she’s used to it.”

Akshay is highly mesmerized by his leading lady Chitrangada’s beauty, who resembles late Smita Patil.

“Chitrangada is a very beautiful actress. She looks very desi with that dusky complexion and reminds me of late Smita Patil. She is a wonderful actor which she has proven also by winning awards. She’s done lot of parallel cinema but DESI BOYZ is her first commercial film,” ends up Akshay.

Big B spends happy time with granddaughter

Grandfather Amitabh Bachchan is having a nice time with his newly born grand-daughter as he wrote on the blog about how his life lit up with the new member of the family. A wave of happiness is passing through the Bachchan family as after months of speculations, actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan gave birth to a baby girl on Wednesday morning at Seven Hills Hospital in Mumbai.

Hospital authorities informed that Ash had a normal delivery that took place around 10 am on Wednesday.

”The soft innocence of nature rests in my arms, oblivious of what else happens around her. Occasionally she opens her large and what looks now to be eyes of the lighter hue, which those that have dealt with similar, know shall change with time,” Big B blogged.

”Often the gentlest of smiles quiver across her pouted upper lip, the shut eyes bringing expression through the brows and the settling down to that dream she must dream. Her head covered in the littlest of head gear she will ever adorn, snuggles into her mini quilt of varied colors dominated by the pink softness of its material,” he described.

A nostalgic Big wrote about his feelings of touching his son Abhishek Bachchan in his blog: ”As I look down upon her I bring myself back to the visual when I had placed her Father in just condition into my Father’s hands, to be heralded into our home. I stare at her in silence. She reciprocates in similar vein.”

”Dad! I hold the 9th Bachchan in my hands… this family that you started .. !!Amitabh, Ajitabh, Shweta, Nilima, Namrata, Abhishek, Naina, Bhim and now .. this beauty, unnamed so far … I hope you and Ma look upon us from above and bless us and your latest addition. To carry forward what then may have seemed a somewhat limited expectation. The tradition continues and may it prosper by your love and your aashirvaad (blessings),” he wrote.

Ranveer Singh’s Dumb wit statements

He may have a super-hit film on hands, he may be the cool dude on the block but somehow Ranveer Singh should know how much of his mouth he should open. Being part of the launch of his next film Lootera, Ranveer, donning a white T-shirt and high vest denims, said,

“Sonakshi had taken my breath away with her famous dialgoue ‘Thapad Se Darr Nahi Lagta…Pyaar Se Lagta Hai’. About his look in the flick, the actor who came to the venue on a bike said, “I am the coolest dude of the 1950s…with that high vest jeans and all retro look”.

Ranveer went on to add, “I carry a coolest dude ever look even ever look even in high-waist pants. I think, I’m the second actor after Aamir Khan who has worn such pants. I draw inspiration from Dev Anand and James Dean though when it comes to dressing for Lootera.”

One couldn’t help but notice Anurag Kashyap hinting at him to shut his trap while he thought he was belting out some humourous quotes by making barbs at seasoned superstars like Aamir Khan and Salman Khan. Moreover Ranveer’s look for the day – in a pair of high waist jeans – was totally against the look of a period film of the 50’s as it is being highlighted. Since when were JEANS in vogue in the 50’s?

Must say, some as ‘duh’ as a Ranveer could wear jeans and claim that he looked like James Dean in that era. Grow up kid, if your designer didn’t think twice, you as an actor should have used your brains…..that’s if you have any.

Sonakshi loves to dress Indian

At the launch her new film Lootera, Sonakshi Sinha  made a grand entry in an old red car dressed from head to toe in traditional Bengali attire looking breath-ta-kingly beautiful! Ranvir Singh rode in full style on a bike wearing a brown leather jacket and a white tee shirt with suspenders looking all like a Bengali young man from the 50’s.Their entry took everyone gathered around by storm.

Sonakshi, who arrived in a red car at the venue of the press conference said, “this the most challenging role for me. I am looking all forward to start shooting and working with Ranveer”. When asked about her Bengali look in the film, the gorgeous actress said,  ” I love to dress Indian which makes me a typical Hindi film heroine. Lootera will give me an opportunity to dress like original and authentic Bengali lady I have this authentic Bengali look of the 1950’s era. I will wear jewelry, clothes, kajal and make-up and etc of the same time period. We have kept the look original and as authentic as that of 1950s”.

Sonakshi Sinha and Ranveer Singh well planned pairing.

While both Sonakshi and Ranveer Singh bagged the best debutant awards at various funcitons together, they both seemed to have different plans while chooising their co-stars. Sonakshi was happy working with stars like Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar and shied away from working with the younger breed. When quizzed on this, Sonakshi is her cool, composed and bubbly laugh in her voice commented, “When I worked with seniors, I was told that I am too young for them. And now when I am working with Ranveer, I am asked why I am doing films with a newcomer”.

Quite composed in her dealings with the media, one cannot but comment that the spate of link-ups, denials and stories circulated recently involving the duo lead actor pair in the media was adding fuel to the fire. Curiosity has been created to fuel the pairing and having Ranveer steer away from his link-up with Anoushka. Did we hear Sonakshi say, “Khamosh” in true Shotgun ishtyle?

The launch of Lootera

For the first time in India, four prolific minds have come together with a motive to produce content based  films, nurture young talent and give each other creative freedom and support, for the sake of creating cinema that they love. All of them have worked really hard to get where they are today and are extremely proud and overwhelmed that they are blessed with such an opportunity. Through Phantom they want to bring a quantum change  in the way the industry functions and want to bring in talent that they believe in.

The production house was floated by four prominent filmmakers, namely Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane, Vikas Bahl and Madhu Mantena with an objective of making content-based films and nurturing the budding talent. “It is a love story. The film is a period film that is set in the 1950’s

They also announced their first film, Lootera. Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane of Udaan fame, starring Ranvir Singh and Sonakshi Sinha which along with the Phanton Production House will also be co-produced by Balaji Telefilms.

Lootera, the first ever product by the four noted filmmakers, will be directed by Vikramaditya Motwani. under the banner will show Ranveer as the title suggests Lootera and Sonakshi as a Bengali beauty in the female lead which is set to go on the floor by December end. ‘Lootera’, written and directed by Vikramaditya Motwane of ‘Udaan’ fame, is the maiden venture of the newly floated production house, Phantom.

Vikas Bahl, Anurag Kashyap,Vikram Motwani  and Madhu Mantena announced their collaboration and are setting up India’s first director’s company which they call Phantom-The Search of the Unknown. And if four creative guys get together the event was bound to be a classy and extremely entertaining affair.

Anurag Kashyap and creative gang launches Phantom Films

The launch of Phantom Films Pvt. Ltd. which is being propagated as India’s first ‘directors’ company brought across a culmination of some fine directorial talent joining hands together to make some good Cinema.

Vikas Bahl, Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane and Madhu Mantena form this whizfully creative team. Each one has successes to their credit, each one is enterprising and charged up to grab the eyeballs with some unusual content for meaningful yet successful cinema. Quite charged up with this brainwave of directors joining hands together, Viacom 18 has also joined hands with this team.

Phantom’s first film Lootera will be directed by Vikramaditya Motwane (of Udaan fame) and will have Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha in the lead. Balaji Films will also be presenting the film. Obviously Phantom Films has arrived with a bang since they have award winning debut actors with major fan following and an ace script up their sleeve.

While the media’s blue-eyed loveable boy Anurag Kashyap was hounded with questions, he wistfully ensured that his other director buddies got an equal share of mileage. He did comment that, ‘the film which has a hero, the producer and the heroine as a half Sindhi can never go wrong. It will be a sure shot success’.

Lootera is a romantic film set in the 50’s so one can eagerly wait to see Vikramaditya Motwane deviate from his earlier magic in Udaan.

Mumbai Meri Jaan – AMRITA PRAKASH

What attracted me to Mumbai?

Mumbai has its own individuality. It has a plethora of moods blended with an iconoclastic lifestyle. The city has its own rules and an amazing pace. It is like a whole person in itself. There’s so much to gain from Mumbai, more so from the incredible learnings that are attached to it.
Best thing about Mumbai

Despite all the odds, the city is forever on the move. It goes through its share of crisis time and again… but Mumbaikars pick up the pieces. The people who abound here get their act together and the city is up and running again in a jiffy.

Mumbai today is

India’s cultural, religious as well as economic focal point. It is a potpourri of a variety of communities and cultures. To top it all, it is a city where more dreams are made and broken.

What I would like to change in Mumbai?

I wish the relocation plans were more successful since they would not only reduce the slums in the city but also provide a better standard of living for the slum dwellers. Also, I wish the people of Mumbai would respect the city and its monuments a little more. Problems like littering and destructive activity on monuments still haunt the city. It would be great if the people came together to make Mumbai an even better place to live in.

Mumbai’s best monument?

This is not really a ‘monument’. But I absolutely LOVE the Haji Ali Dargah. This spot is at its most beautiful during sunset. I could stare at it for hours as the sun goes down. It really fills me with peace.

Compared to other cities, Mumbai is?

exceptionally safe! I can’t think of any other city in India as safe as Mumbai. There are often times I have to return home alone at 3-4am after a shoot. This is something that would be unthinkable in any other city including metropolitans in India.
When away from Mumbai, I miss?

One of my most favourite feelings in the world is feeling warm sand between my toes. And the rhythmic waves crashing against the shore fill me with peace no matter how chaotic life gets. I often spent solitary time completely lost on the beach in mumbai, and fail to realise I’ve been there for hours. After family and home- the beach is what I miss most when away.

To be successful in Mumbai?

You need to stand out and yet fit in. The city does not have time for anyone lulling about and daydream that success will be served on a five-star platter. One needs to be constantly on the move. Threes no time to stop and think. Just keep moving if you want to keep pace with Mumbai.

Music launch of LOVE POSSIBLE

The music launch of  the film LOVE POSSIBLE lacked the lustre and glam effect. Somehow only one lead pair was present for the music launch. TV actor Karan Mehra makes his debut in the film and his co-star Anisha Verma tried to grab all the eyeballs. Conspicuous by their absence were the other lead pair – TV actor Raj Singh Arora and Shristhi Sharma. While the latter obviously stayed away from the media since her pciture with cricketer Yuvvraj Singh was splashed in a leading daily as being his current girl-friend. Obviously she didn’t want to bombarded by the media with personal questions.

Writer, producer, director J H NAKRA spoke of his ambitious plans of launching 3 films in 2012. The music of the film makes a revival of the 60’s music and somehow the music for all the songs seemed as an inspired version of what we have heard. One of the lead singers of the film, Tarannum has a squeaky voice which is jarring.

Though the teasers showed Karan Verma at its peak. the producer would definitely have to market the film effectively if he wants to trap the audiences in the cinema halls.

Deepika asked to lose more weight

Her tattoos have always been a topic of discussion. But for the first time, Deepika Padukone’s weight has made headlines, thanks to directors Abbas-Mustan. A source informed Mumbai Mirror that the duo has asked the actress to shed 4-5kg for her role in their sequel to the 2008 thriller Race.

According to the source, the directors’ demands come in light of the fact that Deepika’s costumes in the film require her to sport a leaner structure. And so, Deepika has reportedly conceded to their demand and has joined a pilates class to tone her body.

The source explained, “Race 2 went on floors last week. However major portions of Deepika’s scenes have been allotted in the film’s second schedule, which will take place next year. In the film, she has to don short, ultra-glam dresses, and so, she needs to lose weight. She has since been regulating her diet.”

When contacted, a friend of Deepika told Mumbai Mirror, “It is Deepika’s decision to lose 4-5 kg. Deepika is very excited to don the ultra glam clothes in Race 2 and she knows that she needs to tone her body further to meet the requirements of the role.” Deepika and directors Abbas-Mustan remained unavailable for comment.

Hrithik Roshan most kissed GAY ICON

Kareena Kapoor might be the latest entrant at Madame Tussauds but it’s another Bollywood celebrity at the museum who is grabbing more attention. It’s our Duggu dear!

While Hrithik Roshan has already topped the charts recently for being amongst the Top 10 most kissed celebrities at Madame Tussauds, recent reports from the museum are reason enough on why he is being tagged as the new gay icon in the online community. The museum’s records reveal that not only is Hrithik amongst the most kissed actors but most of his kissing fans happen to be men. And these men are kissing him at all the ‘right’ places.

So move over Dostana dudes and the Desi boys, it is Hrithik Roshan who is the new gay icon. And now you know why!

Aamir Khan cries on a chat show

Aamir Khan is an emotional guy, that everyone knows. But the fact came forth recently when Aamir broke down several times during the shoot of his debut TV show tentatively titled ” Mera Bharata Mahaan”.

The shooting for the first episode of his maiden TV chat show was going on which according to a source from the channel tells us, “The shooting of the first episode was quite an emotional affair. Aamir Khan broke down quite a few times during the shoot and had to take breaks to regain his composure. A lot of people in the audience too broke down several times. Aamir’s wife Kiran Rao was there by her husband’s side throughout.”

The source further adds, “Aamir had not met the people beforehand because he wanted to retain spontaneity in the show so his reactions were very natural. The whole atmosphere on the sets was emotional and sombre. The team of the show had been working on the idea for over a year and it all happened very quietly.”

Tentatively titled Mera Bharat Mahaan, the show is expected to be on the lines of Oprah Winfrey’s talk Show.

Veena Malik to marry on national network…just a Publicity stunt as usual for NDTV Imagine

Just when we thought that the Pakistani starlet Veena Malik had pulled off quite a ‘costing’ coup by wangling Rs 3 crore for her appearance on the reality TV show based on the epic Indian tradition of Swayamvar, we heard that the lady has been offered an extra Rs 1.5 crore.

However, the extra monies will only be sanctioned if Malik agrees to tie the knot to one of the many suitors on the show itself.

A source informed Mumbai Mirror, “The television channel has drawn up two contracts for Veena. If she walks off without an actual marriage with one of the prospective grooms from the show, she will get only Rs 3 crore.

This was the initial sum that had been agreed upon. However, if she actually marries the man she chooses on televisiobn, she will get a total of Rs 4.5 crore.”

While Veena Malik said she was not allowed to speak about the Rs 4.5 crore contract, Harsh Rastogi the Content Head said, “The amount is certainly not that much.”

Pooja Missra goes wild on Bigg Boss…shocking story

Pooja Missra, once again, makes life interesting for the inmates of the Bigg Boss household. A night before, she’s locked in the bathroom for almost three hours. This along with her ghastly reaction when asked, stuns the entire house. This leads to the house believing that she’s possessed.

In spite of her attempts to explain her behaviour to Amar, she gets no sympathy from him. Siddharth steps up and tries to reason with her but fails, so he tells her out of frustration that he will make sure that nobody in the house talks to her.

The contestants also see her violent streak when she slams the door on Siddharth’s face while he tries to pacify her. Siddharth loses his temper and the two get into a very nasty fight and he almost kicks her. The housemates intervene and with great difficulty try to calm down a furious Siddharth.

The actress’ brother Vadlapatla Naga Vara Prasad had filed a petition in the Andhra Pradesh High Court, on Tuesday, to withhold the release of the film.

He claimed that the film was based on tampered facts of her life and portrays his sister in an obscene manner. In response, to pre-empt any further roadblocks to the project, the filmmakers have filed caveat petitions in nearly 20 cities across the country to request that no petition against release of the film should be entertained without their knowledge.

Vara Prasad, who lives in Smitha’s native Kovvali village in West Godavari district, created a sensation a few days ago by slapping legal notices on the Kapoors.

However, the petition was not admitted. Speaking to Mumbai Mirror over the phone Smitha’s brother claimed that Kapoors had filed caveat petitions in about 20 courts across the country. “I received intimation from courts in various cities including Mumbai, Hyderabad, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Vijayawada and Eluru (hometown)”, he said. Defending his decision to drag the makers of the film to court, he said, he said, he did so after Balaji refused to respond to him.

“Going by the news reports appearing in newspapers and telecast by the TV channels, the the movie is based on my sister’s life. Her character has been portrayed in the most obscene manner. Such scenes must be removed before its release”, he petitioned the court, accusing the filmmakers of making the movie without the family’s consent or knowledge.

Nargis Fakhri hits the endorsement bandwagon big-time

If reports are to be believed, Nargis Fakhri has three brand endorsements in her kitty at such an early stage in her career.

It’s not even a week since her debut film released and Rockstar girl Nargis Fakhri is already in the Bollywood rat race. And whether she is herself aware of this or not but Nargis has already beaten the likes of Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor in the race.
But what’s this race about? Well Nargis Fakhri seems to be the most sought after actress presently as far as brand endorsements are concerned. While the actress has been receiving favourable response for her debut act, there are no two ways when it comes to her hot looks. If sources are to be believed she already has three brand endorsements under her kitty. The brands in question are Tata Motors, Parachute hair care and Van Heusen. There is no confirmation on it yet but an official announcement is expected soon.
Seemingly the actress has been in talks with these brands even before her debut film Rockstar released and going by the response to the film and esp. Nargis Fakhri, the brands have no reason to complain. If everything goes fine, she would break the record of her contemporaries like Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor with three brands at such an early stage of her career.

Dekha Ek Khwaab takes over the KBC slot on Sony TV

Prial Gaur and Aroona Irani

Commenting on the launch Ms Shrishti Arya, Producer Rose Movies said, “This is the story of Monia, who like all young girls dreams of being a princess and finding her prince charming but unlike all the others Monia’s dream does come true. But it’s not anything like she had imagined…Dekha Ek Khwaab is a dream come true for us as a production house too! To tell a story so close to every girl’s heart on a platform like Sony which has always been a leader with its distinct programming is a wonderful opportunity. We’re confident that the coming together of the shared vision at Rose and Sony will result in a memorable show that will ‘rule’ over the audience’s hearts!”

Sony Entertainment Television’s strategic plans post KBC

While this season comes to an end in a couple of days, Sony Entertainment Television is all set for their new show Dekha Ek Khwaab . Quite effectively, it is a graduation of the KBC catch-line which entralled millions of viewers all over the world. Life is all about fulfilling your dreams and the new show is an extension in the fiction format.

Fiction shows such as Bade Ache Lagte Hai, Saas Bina Sasural and the recently launched Kuch Toh Log Kahenge have gained immense popularity and are growing from strength to strength. Dekha Ek Khwaab will only lock Sony’s leadership position in the top.

Commenting on the launch and the future strategic plans for Sony, N.P Singh, COO, MSM, said “This year has been a splendid year for Sony Entertainment Television as we stand at a clear No 2 position over the last ten weeks, with KBC changing lives of people and Bade Acche Laggte Hai and Kuch to Log Kahenge being household names, we are confident Dekha Ek Khwaab will consolidate our position at No 2 and add to the power and punch that Sony is bringing to its audiences and continue to delight audiences on a daily basis.”

Sneha Rajani

Added Ms Sneha Rajani, Senior EVP and Business Head, SET, ‘As I have mentioned in the past ‘Fiction will be our main growth driver.’ At SET it is our constant endeavor to offer variety and novelty to our audiences by focusing on relatable themes, identifiable characters and solid storytelling. Swift on the heels of the triumphant run of KBC, Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, Saas Bina Sasuraal and recently launched Kuch Toh Log Kahenge, Dekha Ek Khwaab is the next BIG show from Sony Entertainment Television which will further strengthen our fiction line up. I am confident that Dekha Ek Khwaab will be appreciated and add to the growing audience base especially female audience for Sony’s fiction shows.”

With effective brand strategies in place for the future, Sony Television is definitely one channel that’s geared up to beat the TRP’s with their rivals and competitors with soul-stirring content.

Farhan Akhtar’s homework for his film Bhaag Milkha Bhaag

Farhan Akhtar is leaving no stone unturned to get into the character of Milkha Singh, the athlete he will essay in Rakeysh Omprakash  Mehra’s next film Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. To prepare for the film that will go on floors in mid 2012, Farhan spent a couple of days with the athlete, better known as The Flying Sikh in Delhi. The actor from Mumbai and the sportsman, who flew in from Chandigarh stayed in the same hotel in the capital.

A source told, “Farhan is an established actor now. He did not need to go through the basics. But it was important for him to have a long interaction with the athlete.”

However, this is not the first time the athlete has interacted with the cast and crew of the film. “Singh has given a lot of inputs during the scripting by Prasoon Joshi,” informed the source.

Milkha Singh’s meeting with Farhan is not the last either. “Now, Farhan has a good equation with Singh. They will meet again whenever required. The athlete will make Farhan understand the nuances of running and winning races and the various other elements of his successful career.”

When contacted, Singh informed, “Haan, we’ll meet again. Probably within a week. I want every child in this country to draw inspiration from this film and do what I did. The film should act as an inspiration for he kids of this country. They should make it to Olympics one day.”

According to sources, for the Movie Bhaag Milkha Bhaag director Mehra has also written to various coaches in the country with the help of Milkha Singh. These sports consultants will prepare a training schedule for lead actor Farhan, who’ll have to go through rigorous exercises for the same.

Singh revealed, “Three filmmakers had asked me for my story. They all wanted to make a film on me. They were offering me lots of money. But I gave it to Rakeysh Mehra’ (Bhaag Milkha Bhaag)  for Re 1. I trust Mehra. My son told me that we should share our story with him. Twenty percent of the film’s profits would go to Milkha Singh Trust, which helps poor and needy sportsmen. I want this trend to continue.” Farhan Akhtar remained unavailable for comment.

Mumbai Meri Jaan – Pooja Bedi

How has Mumbai changed over the years?

Mumbai was far more liberal and tolerant earlier. Ever since we seem to have changed the name to Mumbai (in a bid to return to your roots), the whole fraternity seems to have gone back in time.  Going back to me is always very regressive. We should always think of moving ahead of the times.

Reason your statement as to why we have become regressive.

There is an over done emphasis on moral policing and trying to hold on to things. You have to see the nature and fabric of things in a society. Every city has its own distinct personality and the people who abound it evolve and change with regards to the city. As a booming city, Mumbai is poised for tumultuous growth and we should be surging forward. We need to think global and no longer be insular. I am not in favor of the divide and rule politics, which is rampant not just in Mumbai but also in, states acrossIndiatoo. This is utterly shameful for a city like Mumbai and not only does it take you 10 paces back but also put you down in the eyes of the world.

What deflates the spirit of the Mumbaikars?

The city goes up in fames when political leaders come and give inflammatory speeches. This leads to provoking their party workers who create chaos for the common man.

Your most horrifying moment about the city.

Recently we have been at the hands of lot of regressive moral policing. We have had to face the brunt with a lot of divide and rule politics. This has really saddened me as a citizen of Mumbai. The burning of (greeting) card shops during Valentine depicts a lack of respect of a citizen’s right to celebrate a day of love. It shows a complete fundamentalism and telling the city ‘don’t love’ and you are doing it through violence. Beating up couples (in love), bashing people on beaches or those sitting on rocks is sending out a message that you can’t be affectionate or be in love. Using violence to send out such a message is appalling and a denial of your basic democratic rights as a citizen.

What qualities do you need to be successful in Mumbai?

You need great PR skills. One needs to go out and network. Everyone is so warm and enveloping in every profession. If you manage your public relations effectively and have good interpersonal skills, you can work yourself up the ladder in a jiffy.

Where do you take you take your (international) friends when they visit Mumbai?

Oh, they see the works. I involve them right from experimenting with the traditional food (Gomantak cuisine to bhel puri), seeing Bollywood movies in Fame Adlabs or taking them tour Page 3 parties to show them our paparazzi. If they want to savor the local glamour flavor, I take them shopping from the high-end (local couture) stores of Mumbai to the streets of Bandra and evenFashion street. And of course, horse rides, clubbing – Mumbai is rocking with so much to experiment.

Brazilian Hunk in ROCKSTAR

After the surge of foreign born women into Bollywood, here come the men. Moufid Aziz (or Moufid Abdelaziz Junior, to give his full name) has a bio as exotic as any of these women who have started to make a name in the glamour world. He was born in Brazil to parents of Portuguese and Arabic heritage, though not in glamorous Rio but in the southern city of Curituba. That is also the city where he started his modelling career but his ambitions soon took him to Sao Paulo and then to many other parts of Brazil.

But within 5 quick years, Moufid left the shores of Brazil travelling in destinations as Germany, Japan, Spain , Hong Kong, South Africa , India, Portugal and Singapore; working with names as big as Gucci , Chanel , Ermenegildo Zegna, Pepsi, Gatorade , Volkswagen ,Blackberry ,Fausen Haten , Samsung, LG and Hyundai and walking the ramp at Sao Paulo fashion week, Rio fashion week, Barcelona fashion week and India Fashion week.

India, in particular, took a particular liking to this model of mixed heritage offering him not just ramp walks but television commercials for Lux, Xylys, Maruti SX4, and Slice in which he appeared with the likes of Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra.

It is no wonder then that Bollywood soon came calling with some really interesting roles: Moufid will be making his debut in a really interesting character role with Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Rockstar’ which releases today. .

Moufid believes that his mixed heritage and his wide travel give him a greater appreciation of the challenges of his profession, and he is confident that his focus, professionalism, and keen desire to get the job done no matter the obstacles will serve him well in the long term. Looking out into the distance, Moufid sees himself not just as an actor and model, but as an entrepreneur who can use his business experience in the industry to perhaps start his own agency.

When not working, Moufid loves to surf or skate in the dark of the night. If next time you are passing by the St. Andrew’s School grounds in Bandra and you see a handsome young man playing football with the kids with not a care in the world, you would have spotted the next big thing in India’s glamour industry:

John Abraham’s New Role

An interesting turn of events John Abraham announces the launch of his production house- J A (John Abraham) Entertainment Pvt Ltd. The power player is now soon to don the producer’s hat to make cutting edge entertainers with international appeal –

After producing some successful commercials for Haier, Philips Mens range and Nikon Coolpix , the star takes a step further in the creative space and now ventures into commercial films that is akin to the actor’s sensibilities .

Though JA Entertainment has many films in the rolling, the first would be a venture titled “Vicky Donor” ,directed by Shoojit Sircar in association with Rising Suns Films Pvt Ltd. Ironically the actor will not star in the film but may make an appearance in future projects if the script demands it – Confirms John, “It was a conscious decision to not act in my first production because I believe producing a film is about creating quality content that I believe in. Shoojit is a director par excellence, and when he narrated the script to me I wanted to bring this breakthrough commercial cinema to the audience at large.”

“I’m glad John has agreed to take this film ahead as his first venture as producer. We are on the same wavelength, which is most important for any relationship.” adds Shoojit Sircar.

And if that wasn’t all, John being a huge name in the overseas market has also roped in technicians from LA on board the film. A collaboration with acclaimed action trainer turned film-maker JJ Perry may also be on the cards, after having caught the attention of stalwarts like Sylvester Stallone and Gerard Butler.

Says a source “John is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring his home productions have production values on par international standards –He is already in talks with technicians in LA and his film is going to be one to watch out. However, for now details have been kept under wraps”

In the meanwhile after muscling his way into BO success with his last action film Force, John Abraham is raring to go in the space he has newly been crowned -the top most contender. With films like Race 2 and Shootout at Wadala in his kitty,John’s diary only spells action .

But ask the actor if he keeps track of his successful box office figures and quick comes the reply “To be honest, I don’t understand all these number games – whether it’s at the Box office or star wars.”

Rohhit Verma on Fashion

(An excerpt from my interview done with Rohhit Verma for a Dubai magazine)

According to Oscar Wilde, “Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months.” What is your connotation about fashion?

Fashion is definitely not ugly or intolerable. We all dress to look classy, upbeat and part of the happening crowd. I agree that your fashion style should be comfortable, but definitely it has to be unique and different to be noticed. How else would you stand out in a crowd if you were dressed in shabby salwars. Yes we have to alter it every six months. Don’t we do the same with our food habits (although not necessarily wait for that long a period)? Imagine having a biryani as your staple food diet for 365 days, 24 x 7. You would go sick (of the biryani and your eating habits) and see hallucinating nightmares with biryani pots. We all need to experiment with continental food and pastas to tickle our taste buds.

One needs to explore and experiment with new fashion trends. Fashion creates positive energy overtones based on what you are wearing. The positive energy helps liven your mood and people around you find you pleasing and acceptable. However wearing a loud and bright color to work may emit a negative energy which puts people off.

Rohhit Verma has finally arrived in grandeur, style and great elan. His latest fashion LAS VEGAS which also co-incided with his birthday saw the dawn of a new era for the designer. He has evolved with an elegance that is superfluous and totally glam.

Seeping with his innate belief in Lord Krishna, one can’t help but find mystifying symbolisms in Rohit’s personal life spectrum. While the baansuri wala played music and enthralled his well-wishers, Rohit has been spreading and painting his playful palette with ingenuous designs. He, too, has dared to be different (and facing the flak figuratively) and almost nonchalantly apathetic to society norms. What appears blatant and hallucinatingly sacrosanct or almost devilishly scandalizing to others is a natural course of living for this eclectic designer. Rohit has chosen to break all barriers, surmount all upheavals in life, faced the brunt of harsh criticism despite being a do-gooder all the way. Being scandalous or controversial has never been his destination, that’s the path and mesmerizing flavor of his life.
